Most likely, Bill is referring to the on-again/off-again debate
between those who seek to expand Apple II Computing and those who wish
merely to control it even if this means wrecking every Apple II
institution valued by users. The latter group is very small and getting
smaller as is only proper. The on-going 'debate' is one of our little
soap operas.

It seems unlikely that Apple, Inc. will have any desire to endorse
any Apple II version of "Appleworks" since, evidently, the company has
found a new use for the name. Why not sponsor an Awks upgrade named
"II-Works"?

One of the myths propagated by a few malcontents is that II users
will not buy software. If "buy software" means shelling out $99 for a
word processor, then, yes, very few users will be interested. A basic
reality of the current Apple II software market is that it is a
low-price market. The way to make money is to sell lots of something at
$9.95 --- $29.95.

Let's talk about II-Works. What is the major weakness of Awks 5?
The major weakness of Awks 5 is that it is not a viable upgrade of Awks
2. It requires too much memory to run on many Apple II's. Make II-Works
configurable for 128k Apple II's as well as for 4MB IIgs's and you will
have a product with wide appeal. If you include on-disk documentation to
save on cost and can sell II-Works for $29.95, the odds are that you
will have a money maker.
