I have a similar set-up. Where DMA is _very_ noticeable is when
you do a large file copy from a CD-ROM or do a find file search
on a CD-ROM. With DMA turned off, it is extremely agonizing!
(Admittedly, with DMA turned on it is still slow but the
speed increase is very noticeable)
FWIW, I have an Apple CD150...a sturdy drive but very slow.
