If your Koala pad has the usual 16-pin IC style plug, you can plug
it into the 'Old' Game connector on the GS (or other Apple II)
motherboard. The 'Old' Game connector is an IC socket near the back
right side of the motherboard.
As already mentioned, the Koala pad basically acts like a joystick
substitute. If you have a joystick plugged into the usual GS Game
socket, it will need to be unplugged in order for the Koala pad to work
correctly. (And, you will need to unplug the Koala pad to use the
joystick.)
One way to make connecting the Koala pad in and out easier is to
get a 16-pin to 9-pin plug converter-- i.e. an 'Old' Game plug to New
Game plug converter. One or two Apple joystick makers (like Epyx or
Wico) made these for a few years. You may be able to find one at a swap
meet. Next best would be one of several 16-pin Game "extenders" which
brings the 'Old' Game socket out to an external socket.
