You can connect external IDE HDs to the gs using Joachim Langes Blue Disk
card. I don't have his www address at hand, but you should find it on
Nathan's list of A2 ressources. Focus cards are handy plug-in HDs
but not too big and you can't connect other devices to this slot.

Older IBM HDs may work; I have tried to connect a 21;2cGB IBM Capricorn
to my RAMfast and failed miserably. You can get standard cables and
terminators from Alltech Electronics or other vendors. 

Blatant plug: I have made excellent experiences with the 1 GB Iomega
Jaz drive. It works flawlessly, supplies termination power and gives
you enough storage space for a new life with the gs.
