GOOD HEAVENS ... Why did you fellas have to drag me into this ?
I am not against the existence of Asimov ... and certainly I personally do not care if you are a prisoner, an ex-convict, polictical prisoner, or even if you sell fish'n chips and appear on
national TV...
However, if someone is selling a piece of software today for the Apple II and you are using it, you pay for it. As for older software not in circulation, what do you think Treasure Chest
Project is about ? Legally obtaining software for your personal use.
Asimov's existence is two-fold. Piracy ... and Backup Purpose. For the first is objectionable, it's existence is questionable. But I because of Asimov, those software I legally own and have
been damaged has been replaced. Because of Asimov, those software that I to get authors/publishers to reclassify, I do not have to hunt down everyone who have these programs to make avaliable.
Econ Technologies will not replace my Universe Master disk ... they don't support Apple II no more. I can't ring Applied Engineering for my corrupted PC-Transporter software ... they don't
exist no more. I can't play past the first boss in Ancient Land of Ys, who do I find to replace my copy ? Origin is certainly unable to replace my fungus infected "Omega" disk.
I paid for so many of my software ... ORCA programming languages (I have all the details here Mike), Balloon (you want my serial no Joe ?), GraphicWriter III v2.0 (yes Richard, check with
Seven Hills Software if you need to), HyperStudio, list is too many. If they are around, you should pay for it. I will still continue to support companies who still produce for the Apple II, if
I use them, I will buy them.
It's all about yourself.
