I don't know what an "AppleWorks machine" is, but  as one example, on My Apple
IIe, Forth can use a floppy as a linear virtual RAM. I use it to hold very
large arrays and data structures. There is no way to tell till the program
terminates if it will be "using" the virtual RAM anymore.
