Help with creating disks from disk images...
I have a ton of old Apple programs on old floppies that have since gone
bad. I tried to replace some of my favorites by creating disks from .dsk
images. None of them ever worked. I'll outline what I did, hoping that
someone can help me.
I have an original CPC Ultima, the character disk side now gets an I/O
error when I try to create a disk from it. I downloaded and unzipped the
dsk files for Ultima on my PC. I connected a IIe (super serial card) to
my PC serial port. Ran hyperterminal on the PC, ASCII Express on the IIe.
First I sent BINSCII over to the IIe and ran it. Worked fine. With that I
was able to get UNSHK2PLUS and it seems to run fine. I used that to
unshrink DISK2FILE.SHK. Now I had to chop the Ultima DSK file so I could
get it over to the IIe that only has floppy drives. I run DISK2FILE50 and
I tried creating the Ultima disk, with both DOS3.3 and ProDOS order.
Neither one worked. It seemed to work, reading the correct DSK files off
of the drive and prompting me to swap disks for the second half of the
image. When I try to boot the newly created disk, I get nothing at all.
Just to see if it was a bad DSK file, I tried creating other disks from
different DSK files, and none of them worked. I even tried using a
different set of drives. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. I'd hate
to lose all my old software as the disks start to go bad.
