Re: Flopticals (was Re: Test!)
Todd P. Whitesel <toddpw@ugcs.caltech.edu> spawned virtual particles writing:
: with. Sometimes I wonder if the "click of death" problems come from people
: abusing their Zips without really noticing. It is the curse of supposedly
: rugged technology that people will completely beat the hell out of it.
Well Todd, if beating the hell out of the zip drive/disk means to let it
sit on the desk untouched except for ejecting the disk, then everybody
beats the hell out of all of their equipment. :P
Even the old 3.5" Apple drives are more reliable.
Have you done any research into Click of Death?
Main problems are lack of EMI/RF shielding, poor 1st few gen quality
power supplies, higher data density means more sensitivity to media problems,
lack of header cleaner disks; to name a few.
