I thought that when Jerry first started writing Chaos Manor he used an
Apple II. I'm sure that I've read somewhere that Jerry wrote a book or
two on the Apple II.
His wife was using a Mac until just recently, from what I gather from
his column. Jerry's column is one of my favorite in Byte, usually the
first one I read. I think it's pretty funny hearing about all the fixes
you have to have.
I very rarely use Win95. I installed it and just got frustrated having
to go for the reset button all the time. I find it to be about the
biggest waist of money I've ever spent on software. I still think that
GS/OS is light years ahead of Win95. I still to this day can't
understand why all these people use such inferior crap like Win95!!
Right now I mostly use Linux. Linux is about the stablest OS I've ever
used. I have Linux installed on a pentium and have put Win95 on my old
486DX2 50 since I don't use that often. One of these days I'm going to
get me a Apple PPC though. A friend of mine has a PPC Powerbook and I
think it was really a good little computer. One thing that I really
liked about it was that you could record a spoken message, and then play
it back in a variety of ways. What I mean is that you could play the
message back in a singing voice, a chanting voice, and ect. After I saw
this I looked everywhere for a program similar for Win95, but as far as
I know there is nothing.
I too wish that Apple had continued to upgrade the GS. But they didn't,
everybody makes mistakes. I know that I'm going to keep my GS but if I
spend my money on a new computer it well definitely be a Apple PPC.
