In *MY* opinion we should be helpful and friendly towards everyone. The
computerworld is becoming more passive and consuming than ever, and we
Apple II users should keep our 'spirits'. When I bought my Apple IIgs in
1990 or so, everyone was very helpful, but when I went to the university
and got access to internet (www and irc for example), I noticed a rather
hostile environment.
I carried this newsgroup on my BBS (which is down since December). And
there were users reading this newsgroup (you all remember NIPP I guess,
and me, Dark Dude), but the others daren't post. I've talked to them
about it, and they just don't feel the need to walk into a world with
50% spam and crap and pirate discussions. They have a computer they use,
and which they want SERIOUS information/support about. That's why TONS
of people left this newsgroup PLUS the fact that alot went to Delphi and
started another group there. If you weren't on Delphi, you weren't able
to download the latest software (Delphiware?). Damn, I'm the only one in
the Netherlands who has a GS and a decent internet account (at least as
far as I know)... and behind me, there were over 50 GS users which I
gave the latest shareware software to. Don't know if they paid for
shareware fees, but now I am no longer distributing software from the
internet, so this means 50 potential shareware fee payers less. (And I'm
sure the Netherlands isn't the only country this happens in!).
