First of all, most CD players have phono jacks as well as headphone
jacks. Speakers should get plugged into the phono jacks for best
quality.
You don't need to use headphones with the CD player if you have
the speakers plugged into the GS sound card if you get an audio
mixer box as recommended by Sequential Systems. The one from
Radio Shack runs for some $20. It mixes GS and CD audio external
like a PC sound card does internally.

CD Remote and the Media Control NDA. CD Remote only works
for Apple SCSI cards and Apple CD150 and prior units. Media
Control NDA will work with the RF card, SCSI-2 drives on both RF
and Apple CD300 and beyond....with the right media control drivers.
Media Control NDA will work with any device with the right drivers.
