Different people use different things for different purposes.

People like to use the Apple II because it is fun to make it do things that
others say can't be done. It is a tinkerer's dream computer. The Apple
II expansion bus is so well documented that people can build just about
anything to interface with it. The ISA converter is a challenge.

If you don't like to tinker, you may not understand. I have taken my GS
apart and put it together again in a tower case. I have added this and
that and peripherals and software to make it do what the designers
never imagined. I do this because it is FUN and when I am finished,
the computer becomes powerful enough to be FUN to do word
processing tasks on. I'm not saying powerful compared to a new 1997
model Mac, mind you....but powerful compared to any 1987 unit....
which gives you a satisfaction when using it....because YOU did it.

It is the same reason that people make their own furniture in their
garage woodshops even though they can buy furniture that's better
made. It is the same reason that the late great John Denver built
his own Long-EZ rather than buy a Cessna.
