I'm adding db-19 round cables to Disk II drives so that they will be
compatible with IIc and IIgs.
Using salvages db-19 cables from the older Mac external drives, I notice
that sometimes those cables work fine on Disk II, and in other instances,
the cables don't work. Theis variation happens even among cables taken
from the same model of junked disk drive. No damage to any mechanism
found to result from cable-swapping.
Did _cable pinouts_ differ on various db-19 drives?
Yes, I am aware that the oldest Mac drive (400 K single-side 3.5 drive) is
totally incompatible with A2 and that the IWM drive control chip will be
zapped if that olest Mac drive is connected to A2. The above refers only
to CABLES, not to the antique 400K Mac single-sided mechanism.
