System 6.01 upgrade

Ok, after much work, trial and error.. I have been able to install a hard
drive to my ROM 3 IIGS, installed 5.04 and lots of software and have been
learning how to use this machine.

Lately I bought a used copy of Proterm 2.2 and figured out how to ftp the .bsc
system 6.01 files as noted in the FAQ. It was very slow and I had to figure
out how to make a RAM disk, copy the files into a folder, delete the bsc
file from the RAM disk, how to binscii the files BACK into the RAM disk, then
shrinkit, onto a floppy.. to finally come up with a set of system 6.01
disks.

Imagine my surprise when I tried to run the installer and got the message "You
must boot the computer with System 6.0 in order to run this Installer" Grrr...

This took me about three nights to accomplish and now I'm probably not
thinking straight. Is there a short cut to upgrading my hard drive without
going back through the process of downloading 6.0? I guess 6.0 is out there
on the Apple site somewhere.

Thanks for any help. I would never have gotten as far as I have without this
newsgroup.

(as a separate, unrelated problem to this.. the trouble I had getting files
onto the hard drive was because Proterm always reported "I/O error, This disk
has an error" every time I tried to save to the hard drive.. Is there a disk
utility that can fix the problem or is this a bug with Proterm 2.2?)
