You don't have to rush. Just make sure before you do ATD, that you
issue an ATX0 (that's zero). This will make sure that the dialing
modem (the one you are typing ATD on) won't look for a dialtone. Then
you have whatever the timeout is set to for getting to the other
computer and typing ATA. I used to do this between my computer in the
basement and my brother computer up in his room (with our computers
roughly at the same end of the house and the steps at the other).
Did it mostly just to play, to see how well the main GS comm programs
(ProTerm 3.1 and Spectrum 2.1) worked with themselves and each other.
