All the printer cards I've seen were unidirectional, with very simple hardware.

However the AE Parallel Pro has a real parallel interface chip in it, so in
theory it should be capable of bidirectional operation. I bought a used one
but haven't yet dissected it to ascertain if it can imitate a PC parallel
port or not. Anyone else know?
