There used to be a very good sheet music program called MusicWriter
for the GS. It had multiple staves, so you could construct complex
music beyond one instrument. The symbols were characters in a font.
You could replace the font with a TrueType version if you use Pointless.
There was also a program called MasterTracks. It was a sequencer
that could work in conjunction with MusicWriter. Together, you could
do just about anything MIDI.
Could Willie Yeo's Treasure Chest Project investigate the possibility of
making these programs freeware?
