Zip drives...

This may sound crazy, but I now have good SCSI support on both my PC
and my Apple //e. I have postulated the prospect of creating a
"unified" SCSI bus, but with my CMS SCSI card my PC Adaptec 2940U
refused to proceed past device detection.

I know the RAMFast doesn't use a SCSI ID (this would be very good for
the 2940U) but I'm a bit concerned whether attaching two SCSI controllers
onto the same bus would cause inevitable problems (with termination held
in respect).

I am considering another alternative: two SCSI Zip drives. I would keep
one connected to the //e and the other to my PC. I have some 400 disks
(double-sided) that I'd like to backup in their entirety and this seems
like a safer alternative. In the end, I want to burn my collection onto
CD-ROM and then not worry about anything ever getting lost.

In essence, I would write a transfer utility (not too overwhelming ;)
that would read on the block-level of the Zip drive, thereby allowing
the Apple II to access an MS-DOS volume. I am wondering at the success
rate anybody has had with this and if it would be more cost effective
to investigate a unified SCSI bus.

Yes, I wouldn't allow the RAMFast to touch any of the MS-DOS drives
except for the 32MB volume intended for transfer. The Adaptec 2940U
allows me to assign the bootable SCSI ID and anything non-MS-DOS would
simply be ignored.

Thanks in advance!
