Re: Formatting GS HD?

: To summarize,

I never said I did mine the easiest way possible these days. That was quite
some time ago. Reformatting isn't something you need to do very often.

: 1) Dig out an old version of HD SC setup
: 2) Patch it (if using non-Apple drives)

These steps aren't necessary with Drive Setup

: 3) Partition and format on the Mac
: 4) Move the drive to the GS
: 5) Erase the partitions to ProDOS or HFS

This step isn't necessary either since recent versions can create ProDOS
volumes. But the old version I used only makes one HFS volume so it had
to make one A/UX. No matter since they erase to other file systems.

: Compare this to using ADU:

: 1) Run GenEx to grab the GenericMacSCSI driver from ADU
: (only if non-Apple drive)
: 2) Run ADU to partition and format for ProDOS or HFS

: Which method involves more hoops? I say yours, but again everyone is
: entitled to their own preferences. Jay Krell, the author of GenEx, also
: reported problems when using HD SC setup to format for the GS, if you
: read the doc file I posted, but that's probably for a very old version of that
: program.

I used version 7.2 or so. The last version is 7.3.5, then you get into Drive
Setup, for which 1.4 is current. My hard disk works totally trouble free,
even with a 200 mb HFS volume.
