Re: wolf 3d-- bug?

I do have one other comment on Wolf 3D. I'd like to point out that
although this title is officially a Logicware product (because id licensed
the code to Logicware), they have very little to do with it.

Beyond Burger's initial work to get the game more or less working early
on, all the rest of the coding was done by me. I arranged for NinjaForce
to do new art and sounds, finished the programming, and so forth.

It took me two years to finish the project.

And how much money do I make for all this work?

None. Zero. Not a penny.

Please keep in mind that this is not just a freeware product, but one that
a single programmer put together over two years, with a dozen or more
testers. It's just about the most ambitious piece of software ever
created on the IIgs, and I'd just like people to remember that before
complaining about any problems there might be in it.

Now, to be honest, here's a complete list of the known bugs in the game:

1. The knife doesn't draw quite right. This bug appears to be in code
Burger wrote that I don't have source code for, only already-compiled
libraries. I'm working on getting the sources from him (he needs to dig
out a CD and is very busy). Once I have those sources, should be fixable
in an update later.

Here's a list of the known oddities that aren't really bugs in the game
but are either simply odd, or are bugs in system software:

1. The screen becomes a funny light green when you quit. This isn't
really a bug, except that Wolf 3D doesn't restore the standard 640 mode
palette when it quits, so until the Window Manager starts up and fixes the
palette, you have a funny screen.

2. The game crashes when you quit on some occasions on some machines.
This is a Tool Locator bug. There is a Wolf 3D in beta testing that works
around this problem by violating Apple's toolbox patching protocol, and
this will be released in the near future.

There are also the following issues which have been reported but not
substantiated and may or may not really be bugs of any kind:

1. Sounds seem to skip or repeat needlessly. This has been reported by
one person and neither I nor any testers can duplicate the problem.

2. Crashes while using the CDA menu or text control panel. This has been
reported by a couple of people, but can't be reproduced by me or any
testers.

I will of course fix any real bugs I can verify and track down, and any
really annoying other problems I can. I will of course keep my web site
up to date with my plans and intentions.

However, I'd appreciate it if anyone with bug reports would send them to
me instead of discussing them here on csa2, which I don't read regularly
if at all.

Thanks.
