     The sound effects will play through one channel of your Stereo
card.

     Your friends may have been listening through speakers or an
amplifier connected to the GS Sound Output jack. This is a "Stereo" jack
with two output lines; but, the lines are joined inside the GS to a
single source. The Wolf-3D sound you get from the jack is the same as
the sound played through the GS internal speaker. It is a mix of both
channels and is not Stereo.
