This weekend I decided to dig my ROM03 IIgs out of mothballs and set
it up. It worked just fine the last time I used it. After swapping
all my cards from my ROM01 system, I'm having trouble booting into
GSOS. Here's what I've got in the system:
Slot 1: Nothing
Slot 2: Uther (my card)
Slot 3: Nothing
Slot 4: Transwarp 8 Mhz
Slot 5: Stereo card (don't recall which one)
Slot 6: 5.25 Disk Controller card (my card)
Slot 7: SCSI card (my card)
I have a hard drive and a CD drive hooked up to the SCSI card.
When I was swapping the Transwarp I noticed that one of the pins on
the connector was missing. I think it was the one in the upper right
corner. I'm not sure if that pin broke off or if it was ever there.
When I go into the control panel and do all the Transwarp tests they
all pass and the system will boot games, so I think I may be in the
clear there.
When the IIgs attempts to boot GSOS from the HD it gets to the boot
screen and then crashes. I think the HD may be the problem but I'm
not sure (it was a bit flaky the last time I used it). I have some
self-made System 6 disks, but when I try to load from one of them it
just hangs at the loading screen. I'm not sure if these disks ever
worked or not, I never had to use them.
As I mentioned earlier it seems to load game disks though, I played
around with Transylvania III for a bit last night with no problems.
Normally I'd just chalk all of this up to a bad HD, but the missing
pin on the Transwarp is making me nervous. But if the Transwarp was
damaged, wouldn't it not boot at all much less play games?
Any ideas?
