You've got a parallel card installed, right?  The two little round
plugs on the back of the IIgs are serial ports.

Are you using GS/OS?  It has a Printers control panel which must be
set to the right printer & port.  In the Slots control panel, the slot
which houses your parallel card must be set to "Your Card".
