There is a problem with this description: if this really is a ROM 1
IIgs, then you cannot possibly be using AppleTalk at the same time as
your PC Transporter, since they both require slot 7.

The only way this combo would work as described in a ROM 1 would be to
disable the PC Transporter while using AppleTalk. It would also require
slot 1 being set to "Your Card", and you would not be using the modem
port at all.

Is this correct?

(It would be possible in a ROM 3, because you would then have slot 1 set
to "AppleTalk".)

To answer your question, assuming you do have a ROM 1:

- If you put the PC Transporter in slot 1, you will have to set that
slot to "Your Card". You may have a physical problem with the
ColorSwitch card, which needs to use one of the DB-25 cutouts (though
the cable might reach if you put above in slot 4 instead of slot 1 -
I've always had mine above slot 1). Another problem is that the drive
cable won't reach back to the D-19 cutouts near slot 7, but this won't
be a problem if you don't have any drives connected to the PC
Transporter.

- You can then set slot 7 to "AppleTalk", and AppleTalk will use the
printer port (since slot 1 is set to "Your Card", and the ROM 1 IIgs
uses the printer port in preference to the modem port). The modem port
will not be used by anything.

How often do you use the 5.25" drives and the PC Transporter? Do you
ever need to use them at the same time? One other combination that may
be more convenient would be to put the PC Transporter in slot 6 and the
SCSI card in slot 1. You can then set slot 7 to AppleTalk, slot 1 to
"Your Card" (AppleTalk will use the printer port), and free up the modem
port. You would then have to switch slot 6 settings and reboot each
time you wanted to change between using the PC Transporter and the 5.25"
drives.

I use my 5.25" drives so infrequently that I don't find this sort of
combination inconvenient.
