That white socket is the game I/O port. Don't worry about it.
The first thing I'd check is to make sure you have a good video
connection. Does the disk drive start up? Try pulling out all of the
cards, make sure your monitor is properly connected (look at the port when
you plug it in...if you hook it up "blind" you can easily embarass
yourself by plugging the cable into the cassette port. I've done it. And
it isn't even the same kind of connector.), and power the machine up. If
it [BEEP]s and dumps you at an Applesoft ("]") prompt, you are in good shape.
But as your machine is powering up, and failed with two different
monitors, I'd start by checking cables and connectors.
