There is a "Giant List of Classic Game Programmers" somewhere on the
internet.  It does list current e-mail addresses of programmers if they
are known to the person who was doing the list.  It was mentioned here
on CSA2 a while back.

I did contact an author of a game I liked, and he didn't quite seem to
be interested in putting it out as freeware quite yet...he was
considering doing a more modern version of the game.  Of course, he
also didn't seem to care if anyone copied the Apple II version of the
game and was possibly going to put it on his website.
