Actually, a good chunk of the burnout factor came from firefighting other
projects that were _not_ the compiler.

These days I'm at Wind River, probably _the_ premier RTOS-focused company.
We use GNU tools as a key part of our development solution. Right now my
job focus is critical enhancements to GDB, but there's plenty of compiler
stuff to be done also.
