I was under the impression no programs exist for the 8-bit Apple IIe
(or Apple III) that allow you to read or write MFM encoded floppy disks,
such as PC MS-DOS disks or high density Macintosh HFS disks. Well ProDOS
disks formatted as 1.44 MB are obviously MFM, so what I mean is software
that can see other filing systems on MFM disks.
For that reason, I always thought there was little point in hooking
up a SuperDrive to anything but an Apple IIgs. The additional storage
is welcome on both systems obviously, but the main value of the drive
is accessing non-GCR diskettes (these days if I wanted greater off-
line storage I would purchase a used IOmega SCSI Zip drive. Cheaper,
faster and greater storage; in fact good enough to use as a hardrive).

I only have one Apple II 3.5 Disk Controller Card, and considering
how incredibly rare they've become (and valuable as a "bridge" between
my Apple II and PC) I rather keep it than sell it for the US$100 plus
they can be auctioned off for. In a way, it is a piece of the "Mark
Twain" in my ROM 3. ;-)
