Re: Need help with dead Disk II drives
The best software for measuring drive rotation speed is:
Master Diagnostics IIe, Aptest, Locksmith 6.0. CP+ v9.1 gives a numerical
readout for those who like digital displays.
DIVERSICOPY gives a continuous speed readout while fast-copying the disk.
This is the best to use when you have a BUGG-DRIVE with front-panel speed
adjuster.
This enhanced Disk II drive is $20 plus $5 shipping (or 2-for-1 swap with
ordinary Disk II drives).

: There is a long "pot" on the back of the drive unit; mine has the marking
: 89PR5K on it. I've adjusted mine by putting a disk in, attempting to boot it,
: and turned the "pot" until the drive reacted. Have you looked at the chips on
: the top of the drive mechanism. Static electricity will sometimes fry the one
: chip. If that happens, the chip usually will show a crack in it or a small
: crater. I hope this helps.
