No. AOL dropped us Apple II-bes well before graphical web browsers
were in the common man's hands (unlike that that sperm donor thingee).
I remember being really pissed at the time. Still am, though it
prompted my moved to Delphi -- where I still am today.
AOL still supports DOS software -- at least it did when I last tried
about 9 mos. ago. Just the DOS software doesn't have a browser.
Even the graphics aren't as good as the old II graphics. But I logged
on with a DOS machine I bought for $5.oo because I got 15 free hours --
I cancelled at 14.5 hours.
I think it was '94 when they dropped the II-ers. Seemed silly at the time,
because AOL nary had a million clients (they have 10x that now), and they
weren't dropping DOS people. Besides, while us II-ers with the Apple 1200
personal modems weren't the type to move the speed of the
"info superhighway," our turtle paces meant we stayed online longer.
And those AOL whores (that's why I used the word "client" above vs.
"customer") charged $3.50 and hour. No breaks or nothin'! My first month
I got a bill of like $200. Yeah, really worth it for playing
some guy named CYBRGRRL998 at blackjack on my $250 IIc.
Well, screw 'em!
