Neither HyperStudio or HyperCard IIGS require a microphone, it
is optional for those who wish to incorporate live voice and sound
recordings into their stacks (you can still do that with pre-made
digital sound clips). HyperStudio includes a slotless interface
that plugs directly into the Ensoniq molex pins to interface with
the ADC built-in to the chip. If you already have a digitizer card
you can use that as well, both just provide an input to the chip
which Apple left out (there is no "sound-in"/"mic" jack on the GS).
Actually HyperCards IIGS does require 1.5 MB of memory and a
hardrive though, if I recall correctly. I've managed to launch it
with 1.25 MB and off floppy disks, but there wasn't much room to
do anything with it of course.
