My Rom 03 GS, which has been working well for at least the last 4 or 5
years started acting flaky when I was doing some file transfers via
Appletalk from my Mac.
System is pretty good, with a 4 meg card, 8MH Zip card, Ramfast, and a
recently added sound card.
I used Bitbanger to check the memory card... nothing bad detected in one
pass. Did a system check (control option Apple - Reset) and got a
"System Bad" message: OC000005 . (those are zeros)
Does anybody have any idea what this error message means?
I'm about to start going through my resources (including the FAQ's), but
this could be a long search. I'd appreciate any help.

If my memory is good, a self test must be performed at the IIgs normal
speed, 2.8 MHz. Try again without the accelerator card.

When I wrote "normal speed", I meant the normal speed of a IIgs (2.8
MHz) which is described as "Fast" in the control panel :-)

Thank you all.

Turned out to be a false alarm.

The difficulty turned out to be a recalcitrant (bad) hard drive.

Checking the IIGS turned up the false "System Bad" message, of course, because the ZIP card was set to fast, as you pointed out.

The mission continues, now, with a different hard drive!

The good which comes out of it is that I have learned a few new things.
"Ad astra per aspera" (if I remember it right)
