    With a (modified) plug-in accelerator card the fastest attainable
speed is 16 MHz. I currently have a ZipGS running my system at 15 MHz
and it has been quite stable most of the time. The only thing is the
limitations of GS (i.e. 1 MHz bus speed and screen writes) make going
beyond 12 or even 10 MHz not very noticable. Besides which, your only
speeding up the system using a caching method, so there are times the
GS will drop back down to 2.6 or 1.0 MHz when performing certain kinds 
operations. 

    The other way to accelerate the GS is with a DMA SCSI interface
and semi-modern hardrive of course. I have also heard of using a
math co-processor card like the NumberCruncher or FPE to speed up
operations, but it is only useful with certain pieces of software
(very few Apple IIgs owners own a math co-processor card).
