With Midi files that are able to be imported and exported the music
program has to be able to do this. The industry standard for MIDI files
as follow can be imported and exported especially between platforms.
There can be new types or variations I don't know about. But as far as I
know MIDI 2.0 hasn't arrived yet.

Type 0: All channels merged to a single multi-channel track
        Channel assignments saved
Text and program change assignments *not* saved
Loop assignments and markers not saved

Type 1: Parallel multi-channel tracks
        Channel asignments saved
Text and program change assignments saved
Loop assignments and markers not saved

But when it comes to within the platform importing and exporting the
program has to be able to read the files to the program you want to
export or import from. The only programs I know of that can read both
industry standards are MasterTrackPro and PywareMusicWriter. Music
Composer can read file type 1. As to what music programs within the
Plaform can read I know them but can't think of them offhand.
