If your friend's GS has an external modem, then the cable connecting 
the GS to the modem can also be used as a null modem cable between the 
GS and the PC.  This is how I transfer stuff from PC to Apple  
(Actually, I set up a null-modem connection between the Atari ST and 
the GS since the ST can read and write MS-DOS disks and the PC is in a 
different room).
