You write the code that supports them. And as to playing music on
the GS from a CD, the best you can do is to plug speakers into the
headphone jack on a CD drive, and tell the CD drive to play. [Well,
since Apple had to be obtuse and try to get people to buy hardware
with the fruity logo, the scsi commands to do that are different on
fruity hardware (and also the fruity software) vs generic scsi
standards. Thus, you're going to have lots of problems anyhow.]

PCs, Macs, and other systems that play stuff from the computer's
speakers all require an audio cable from the CD drive to the sound
card (or equivalent thereof) before that'll start working. [1] No GS
sound card has the necessary inputs to plug a CD in, so this is a moot
point.

[1] A *few* of the better CD-ROM drive mechanisms[2] allow you to read
the raw audio blocks off the disc over the ide|scsi interface, where
you could mangle them around and feed to the sound card if you have
the processor and bus bandwidth, but that'd be really pushing it on
Apple IIs.

[2] I know for a fact that the Plextor 12/20x scsi drive in my pentium
handles that, as do most plextors. Most of the generic and cheapo ones
don't.
