HELP POWERBOOK RESTARTS ITSELF

Hi there,

Can anyone advise a disappointed Dutchman whose Powerbook 5300 restarts
continuously. I have tried clearing the PRAM memory without effect. I
have left it alone without battery and adapter for a few hours also
without effect. The screen stays black.
When connected to the current it starts giving the startup sound soon
followed by a faint "click" as if it turns off followed again by a
startup sound and so on.
Sometimes after pushing in the reset button for several seconds, a sound
starts building up which gives me a terrible feeling something is
definitely wrong.

Who can give me a valuable hint without sending me straightaway to the
dealer.
