A new, revised Zip drive is supposedly coming out with a power on/off
switch and some other new features. It will be $200.00 for the unit as
opposed to $150.00 for the unit out now. Check Iomega's web page if you
want details. (I use only Syquest removeables so I can't give you any
more details.)
If you want to control the power on/off from the drive you currently
have, simply hook it up to a power strip that has an on/off control and
don't have your computer tied into this strip. And yes, like any other
SCSI item, its power MUST be on before powering up [any] computer
system.
