A solution to the FAQ dilemma

Folks, in light of the limitations imposed on the current FAQ by Nate,
I've decided to write a new one.  I have the tools, including a year
of archived csa2.  So I will do it.  It will take some time, maybe
weeks.
I have a busy schedule and can only work on the new FAQ in my spare
time.
I'm hoping to finish it no later than Christmas this year (please bear
with me until then).  When it is finished, there will be no restrictions
on distribution and, as an added benefit, this new ASCII version will
also allow me to resume work on the Apple II FAQ Stack, a HyperCard GS
version of the FAQ that Nate forced me to shut down.  I will strip out
his version and put in mine.

When I'm done, I hope to put my version on ground, which is accessable
by http.  I'll probably also invite a group of neutral parties to keep
it alive and maintain it.  Several csa2 regulars that I respect and are
flame free include David Empson, Garath Jones, and Mitchell Spector.
Maybe one or all of them can see to it that the new "free" version is
posted regularly and updated.

Please try to keep csa2 as flame free as possible until then.  Nate is
free to do as he pleases with the version he copyrighted.  That does
not prevent me from writing my own.  I don't think even Nate is as
absurd as to copyright the "officiality" of his FAQ so that others can't
write their own version.  (Let me clarify, Nate, before you flame.  Your
text is, of course, copyrighted, but not your position.  You _cannot_
prevent others from writing their own replacement version!)  Still, I'll
give it a new name, like the "Comp.sys.apple2 _Concise_ FAQ" or
something.  Stay tuned.
