Warp6 BBS
Hi,
Is anyone out there still using the Warp6 BBS system? I used to run one
a few years ago and have come across some programs some friends and I
wrote to work with it.
I was going to upload them at the time, but the disk I had them on got
erased somehow, and my hard disk crashed so I thoght I had lost them
forever :( A couple of days ago tho, I came across them again on a mac
disk of mine (I think they are the latest ones I wrote).
They are basically one line games for the system.
There is a game called leeches - it was based on a PC door game I played
on some PC BBS. Its multiplayer and the object is to hack BBS's and
other players accounts to earn cash and buy better hardware for
yourself. There are several levels, and the better the hardware you
have, the better chance you have of hacking another user, or BBS. You
can buy better backup systems, and hacking software as you gain
experience/money. Hacking is based on your hacking equipment/random
element vs your oppenents backup equipment/random element. I thought it
was quite fun :)
There is a game called bandits which is basically a one armed bandit
game. You bet money and it displays characters rotating on the screen (3
wide) that stop and win you money depending on the configuration. It
saves high scores so you can compete with other users.
There is an insult generator that was converted from a freeware insulat
generator we found somewhere.
There is a doorway program that we wrote to give a nice BBS interface to
the door games.
We also modified some of the main BBS code slighty, we added a
graffitti(sp?) wall, where you could leave a message that would be
displayed to the next user logging on.
I think we also modified the main BBS code to work with the door way,
but it was something pretty simple.
All the programs are written in applesoft and are easily modifiable.
The only problem is that there is no documentation :) I did write some
at the time, but I cant find it.
If anyone would like any of this stuff, let me know.
I would have uploaded just for the sake of it, but I'm having troble
remembering how to use my II (shameful as it sounds!). I dusted off my
IIgs but alot of my disks seem to have died :( (I cleaned all the drives
before starting to use it).
Anyway, if any of this sounds useful, let me know. I'm sure someone
who's familar with Warp6 would be able to get it going (although if its
still supported I'm not sure what the latest version of warp6 does
differently - I think I was using 2.0 or something).
If there is a bit of intrest (highly un-likey I suspect :) ), I'd be
keen to get the latest version of warp6 and see if I can make all this
stuff work and then write some doco's for it.
Anyway, let me know.
Cheers,
-Gav.
