1. Is the startup disk you are using bootable on another Apple II? It must
be formated and include a version of DOS 3.3 or ProDOS, the operating
system for 8 bit systems, or a 3.5" floppy containing those or a version
of GS/OS.

2. Is it a 3.5 Apple Disk drive or a 3.5 Unidisk? Is it connected after a
5.25" drive or prior? The correct chain calls for the 5.25" to be
connected first, with the 3.5" to be connected last.

3. If you can get a keyboard, use Open Apple-Control-Escape to open the
control panel. Chose the "Control Panel" item to get to  "Options'. Then
set make sure your startup device is set to scan, not a particular slot.
