Upgrading from MacOS 7.1 to 8

I'm trying to install MacOS 8 on a Quadra 610 running 7.1, when I insert
the CD and try to execute the installer I get an error message that says
something like this: This program can't run on your computer.

Does anybody has any suggestion on what the problem is. Send any
response to my mailbox also. Thanks,
