   What kinds of drives are connected to this system? Information like
this can be very helpful in determining problems. Try disconnecting
all drives and other connections (possibly also the keyboard/mouse
also for a test) from the system and seeing if the system boots
immediately.  If so, connect things back one at a time until it starts
misbehaving again.

   If there are any SCSI devices or other mass storage devices
connected to the system, try turning them on 30 seconds before the
GS. That'll give them time to power on and be ready to respond when
the computer looks for them at boot.
