If 'no hard drive or anything' also means "no 4MB memory expansion card",
then, you will want to get the mem card first. You can check Scantron QC
(800-777-3642)-- they may still sell a 4MB expansion card-- and Alltech
(619-724-2404)-- they have been selling a 4MB/8MB card.

Alltech's Focus "Hard Card" drives are good hard disks and easy to
install. You just plug a Focus drive into a Slot. Your best buy is a 120MB
drive (for around $160) or larger drive. The 20MB version is likely to be an
older design, is too small for a main GS drive and, at around $100, not a
whole lot cheaper than much bigger drives.

If you go the Focus route, you may not need to bother with looking for
the current System 6; the drive may come with System 6.0.1 installed. Be sure
to ask when you order the drive.

Otherwise; System 6.0.1 can be downloaded from an Apple ftp site. If you
prefer getting System 6.0.1 on diskettes plus a very useful manual, check with
Scantron QC. They were advertising a System 6.0.1 + Manual package for $29.95
earlier this year.
