I understand your position, but I believe there's a good reason why most FAQs
are copyrighted. Imagine there wouldn't be a copyright - everyone could grab it
and modify it to his/her needs or intentions. It saves us from a big deal of
hassles having one person responsible for one FAQ because it means there will
be only one version. It could be that someone with commercial interests
modifies the FAQ and releases it as "an unbiased, official guide" which would
question the whole undertaking.

If such abuse could be prevented by other means, I agree a copyright is much
less meaningful. Lastly, the FAQs are available freely to everyone, so the
copyright doesn't hurt anyone.
