The control panel should appear in the 40/80 column mode you set in
the Control Panel/Display/Columns category. [Technically, it's the
code that puts up the 'Desk Accessories' menu listing all CDAs, as
it'll switch to the just set 40/80 col mode when you exit from the
Control Panel back to it.] That mode's also used when the system first
reboots/powers on, so you'd see a ProDOS 8/16 copyright notice and
version info in that mode also.

Check that setting I mentioned above; it's likely that you overlooked
it.
