The characters are on the left side of the keycap on most IIe's, but
not all. My IIe has the white characters in the center of the keycaps.
It also has the ][+ style lid, and did have the non-double-hires
motherboard until it was replaced after I fried it.

It is now an enhanced IIe with 1mb Ram, but it does lack one critical
piece of advanced IIe technology. It lacks the "inverse carriage return"
and "title bar with racing stripes" mousetext characters ($46,$47) and
has the "running man" instead.
