Here's an easy trick with file sharing: if you log on to your Mac with the
same user name as the Mac owner name (set in the sharing setup control panel)
you bypass all the folder privileges and have free rein on all the server
volumes. That saves you the trouble of setting up the privileges on all
the folders you want to access. This even works on real Appleshare servers
when you log on with the same name as the admin name.

Checking to see if you're running open transport can be as easy as checking
your OS version. 7.6 and later only work with open transport. On 7.5.5 back,
there's an app called network software selector which switches back and forth
between OT and classic networking. It'll tell you what's running.
