The IIc drive may just need to have its R/W head cleaned. Try using
a Radio Shack 'Cleaner Disk' to clean the head on the IIc drive. You
squirt some cleaner (iso. Alcohol) on the open patch of the Cleaner Disk
and insert it patch-side-down into the drive and do a couple CATALOGs.
If the disk from the IIe still does not boot, try other disks.
Sometimes, a disk created/written-to on one drive will not work well on
another due to differences in Speed and/or head alignment. If you can get
some version of Copy II Plus to run on the IIc, select VERIFY and, then,
SPEED and follow prompts to do a Speed check. If Speed is far from the
correct value, adjust it.
Bad head alignment-- i.e. bad enough to cause errors in reading
commercial disks and others from a drive with a correctly aligned head--
is fairly rare. Steve Buggie <buggie@unm.edu> may have some ideas for
checking and aligning the head in a IIc.
