Currently, I use Spectrum, and I have used Proterm. Both are very good
telecommunications products. Proterm is 8-bit; thus it does not display
color in displays like ANSI. Spectrum is 16-bit and is well-supported
by the author. ANSIterm is also a good product, but I'm unsure of its
current availability. Practically any Hayes-compatible modem will work
as far as I know, but the modem I currently use is a Supra Express.

There are several qwk programs for the Apple II that I'm aware of. The
one I like the best is 2qwk, and I think the latest version is 2.03. It
is 8-bit but works very well. This program and other qwk readers are
available at the big Apple II ftp site: ground.isca.uiowa.edu. I'm sure
it's available at other sites as well.
